Transition time is occurring in Devils Lake!!

As we get farther into fall, we are starting to see some changes. Fish are really all over. As always, it is all about bait. Seems like the areas on the lake that hold the most bait are the deeper rocks (flooded roads, rock piles, and the old shorelines). There are fish in shallow as well. We tend to work the weed lines in shallower (8-12ft). The bridges have also been pretty good. Best bite is usually in the early morning or the evening. Vertical jigging has been the best presentation at or near the bridges. Look for the bridge bite to get better and better as we continue into fall.
So....work deeper rocks or shallower weeds. Seems like the fish have really transitioned to these two locations. If you aren't getting the results you want in these locations, work the bridges!

To cover water efficiently and quickly, either troll cranks or pull bottom bouncers and spinners. There are fish in the shallows and deep, so don't be afraid to work both areas. Lastly, with all the young of the year bait in the lake, really watch your electronics. Often you will find large schools of bait on you depth finder, remember that walleyes, perch, and pike are not far away from the bait!!

Good luck to all anglers and all the teams in the tournament!!!

Fall is in the air!!!!

Our favorite time of year is upon us!!!
So much to do so little time...Options for days...Devils Lake in the fall is a magical place that every outdoorsman should experience. Ducks/geese, diving in on the newly cut fields of grain. Grouse hunting, dove hunting, and of course white tail deer hunting!! Exciting time of year for sure!!
Oh yes, fishing too!! And as far as that goes it has been fantastic!! We are catching fish using just about all methods  these days, but the best bite had been with a bottom bouncer and spinner. Seems like 7-12 ft has been good for the shallower fish and 22-32 has been good for the deeper fish. Look for the bridges to get better and better as we continue into fall. Also, when the frogs find their way back into the lake, look for the bigger eyes to attack the shallows.
Good luck to all!! Enjoy this special time!!

Labor Day weekend equals OPTIONS...

Its that special time of year in again in North Dakota! Harvest, fishing, hunting, and the beautiful fall colors!!
Kids are back in school and perhaps there is time for you and partner/friend(s) to head to Devils Lake to experience some fantastic walleye fishing.

We are still catching walleyes in shallow water along weed lines, seems like the weeds that have a transition from mud to rock hold the most bait, which equals the most walleyes. There are also a lot of walleyes being caught out deeper (25-32 ft.). Concentrate on these contours along the old shoreline, look for humps, rock piles, flooded roads, basically anything that has a depth change.
Bottom bouncers and spinners allow you to cover a variety of depths quickly. By far, this is the easiest way to fish on the lake right now; however, vertical jigging, and trolling cranks has also produced some great numbers of fish.

More fish will be showing up in or near the current areas (bridges). A popular presentation is to vertical jig or to slip bobber these areas. Don't forget that jigging raps can also be very deadly as we progress into fall. There are days that they really produce.

It's a special time of year...let us know if you need a fishing trip, lodging, or a point in the right direction.

Good luck to all!!
